Transmission problems occur with every car or truck eventually, especially with the wear and tear experienced in Durham traffic. Transmission Problems, in Durham, Can Be Fixed at Cottman Transmission. And, because this is a transmission that has withstood the test of time, the results of its refurbishment will be even more stunning. In the same vein, you’re well-versed in how to make it more durable and capable of street racing. You now understand your transmission better, thanks to your knowledge of the TH350 transmission identification and decoding. GM also produced Turbo 350 derivatives such as the TH20, TH250, and TH375, which included lock-up torque converter models. Although the transmission was designed to match GM vehicles with small-block V-8 engines, it also worked with block-block 396 V-8s, V-6s, and the small Iron Duke in-line four-cylinder models. The Turbo 350 automatic was used in Chevrolet Camaros, Pontiac Firebirds, as well as Chewy and GMC trucks. Aside from that, the TH350 has various variations, including the TH200, TH200C, TH250, TH250C, and TH375. The TH350C, a variation of the TH350 with a lock-up torque converter, on the other hand, had codes like MV4, MX2, MX3, and MX5. The M33, M38, and M39 part codes may be visible, and these codes were for the traditional TH350. Decoding the TH350Īnother feature that can be used to identify the TH350 is the stampings on the transmission side. There are a few additional Turbo 350 variants, but the regular 350 is the most well-known. Check for MV4, MX5, MX3, and MX2 on the 350C. M33, M38, and M39 are the part codes for the Turbo 350. You can still make these transmissions worthwhile today by adding aftermarket conversions, which could result in a 10% increase in fuel efficiency. If you notice a plug on the left side, you’re dealing with a 350-C. The converter used electronic converters to make the transmission and vehicle more fuel-efficient when traveling at highway speeds. From 1979 to 1984, this model was only produced for five years. The Turbo 350-C was a variant of the Turbo 350 with a locking torque converter. According to Novak Conversions, the lockup converter is identified by an electrical plug on the driver’s side of the transmission. From 1979 to 1984, GM used a lock-up torque converter in their automobiles. It was 21.75 inches in length and weighed 120 pounds. The Turbo 350’s housing was made of a single piece of aluminum alloy. It was best suited to V6 and V8 small block engines, but from 1982 to 1984, the Turbo 350 was gradually phased out and replaced by the 700R4, after which the Turbo 350 was discontinued. The Turbo 350 was widely used in rear-wheel-drive GM vehicles, both cars and trucks, until 1984. The TH350 strikes a good mix between strength and size, making it suitable for use in smaller vehicles. The Turbo Hydramatic 350, also known as the TH350, is widely regarded as one of the best three-speed automatic transmissions ever created. The Turbo 350 was frequently mated with small-block Chevy engines like the 327 and 350 V-8s. Beginning in 1969, General Motors produced the TH350 or Turbo 350 three-speed automatic transmission for Chevrolet, Buick, and Pontiac vehicles. At one point, the spacecraft was essentially shut down beginning Aug. During the Extended Science Phase, from November 2008 to December 2010, MRO faced a number of technical obstacles, primarily related to seemingly spontaneous rebooting of its computer four times in 2009. One of the early findings from imagery collected by HiRISE was the presence of liquid carbon dioxide or water on the surface of Mars in its recent past. All other instruments, however, returned vast amounts of uninterrupted and valuable data during the first two years of MRO’s operations, known as the Primary Science Phase, which ran from November 2006 to November 2008. Two months later, it began its primary science mission, joining five other active spacecraft in orbit or on the surface of Mars: Mars Global Surveyor, 2001 Mars Odyssey, the two Mars Exploration Rovers, and the European Mars Express.īy December 2006, the operation of one of MRO’s instruments, the Mars climate sounder, was suspended due to anomalies in its field of view. 11, 2006, put MRO in its final operational orbit of approximately 155 x 195 miles (250 × 316 kilometers). Soon after, the Centaur upper stage fired for a second time to dispatch its payload (and itself) to escape velocity on a trajectory to intercept with Mars.Īfter a seven-month trip and three course corrections, MRO approached Mars and, on March 10, 2006, fired its six engines (which displayed slightly reduced thrust), and successfully entered into a highly elliptical orbit around the Red Planet with parameters of about 265 x 27,650 miles (426 × 44,500 kilometers) with a period of 35.5 hours.Ī subsequent combination of aerobraking in the upper atmosphere and engine burns between April 7 and Sept. 12, 2005, MRO entered orbit around Earth. Along with the basic six instruments, MRO also carries an optical navigation camera and Electra, a UHF telecommunications package to provide navigation and communications support to other landers and rovers on the surface of Mars.Īfter launch, at 11:43:00 UTC Aug. Supplementary investigations have included studies of the Martian climate, weather, atmosphere and geology. The camera, called the high-resolution imaging science experiment camera, or HiRISE, is a 1.6-foot (0.5-meter) diameter reflecting telescope, the largest ever carried on a deep space mission. Its primary goals are to map the Martian surface with a high-resolution telescopic camera, at least partly to help select sites for future landing missions. Image by Soren Harward, CC BY-SA Repetition There are three basic forms of visual balance: Refer to these six diagrams when you are determining the visual weight of specific artworks. This is visually the most stable, but lacks any sense of movement. Lastly, the lower right example places the white shape directly in the middle on a horizontal axis. The bottom middle composition is weighted decidedly toward the bottom right corner, but again, the diagonal orientation of the white shape leaves some sense of movement. The overall sense here is restful, heavy and without any dynamic character. The lower left example is perhaps the least dynamic: the white shape is resting at the bottom, mimicking the horizontal bottom edge of the ground. This arrangement works if you want to convey a feeling of loftiness or simply direct the viewer’s eyes to the top of the composition. On the top right, the white shape is nearly off the picture plane altogether, leaving most of the remaining area visually empty. The top middle example is weighted more toward the bottom, but still maintains a sense that the white shape is floating. The example on the top left is weighted toward the top, and the diagonal orientation of the white shape gives the whole area a sense of movement. In the examples below you can see that where the white rectangle is placed makes a big difference in how the entire picture plane is activated. A really good example is in the work of Piet Mondrian, whose revolutionary paintings of the early twentieth century used non-objective balance instead of realistic subject matter to generate the visual power in his work. The artist arranges balance to set the dynamics of a composition. Visual BalanceĪll works of art possess some form of visual balance – a sense of weighted clarity created in a composition. The following page explores important principles in composition. Some artists today like to bend or ignore these rules and by doing so are experimenting with different forms of expression. A good knowledge of composition is essential in producing good artwork. The center of interest will be strong and the viewer will not look away, instead, they will be drawn into the work. The artist who works with the principles of good composition will create a more interesting piece it will be arranged to show a pleasing rhythm and movement. In any work of art there is a thought process for the arrangement and use of the elements of design. This is sometimes referred to as visual impact. The principles of design help you to carefully plan and organize the elements of art so that you will hold interest and command attention. Too much unity without variety is boring and too much variation without unity is chaotic. Any list of these effects may not be comprehensive, but there are some that are more commonly used (unity, balance, etc). When we say a painting has unity we are making a value judgment. So, the word “principle” can be used for very different purposes.Īnother way to think about a principle is that it is a way to express a value judgment about a composition. On the other hand, a principle can describe a high quality standard to strive for such as “unity is better than chaos” or “variation beats boredom” in a work of art. On the one hand, a principle can be used to describe an operational cause and effect such as “bright things come forward and dull things recede”. There are at least two very different but correct ways of thinking about principles. Using a chemistry analogy, the principles are the ways the elements “stick together” to make a “chemical” (in our case, an image). The principles help govern what might occur when particular elements are arranged in a particular way. The principles are based on sensory responses to visual input: elements APPEAR to have visual weight, movement, etc. The first way to think about a principle is that it is something that can be repeatedly and dependably done with elements to produce some sort of visual effect in a composition. Incorporating the principles into your artistic vocabulary not only allows you to objectively describe artworks you may not understand, but contributes in the search for their meaning. Yet all of these rely on basic structural principles that, like the elements we’ve been studying, combine to give voice to artistic expression. Visual art manifests itself through media, ideas, themes and sheer creative imagination. Some users may find this functionality useful.Īs most modern programs, PixInsight stores a list of recent files that have been opened and this is accessible via the menu File -> Open Recent. You can of course opt to overwrite the original image with File -> Save As all the same, though. This forces you to use File -> Save As, to save it as a whole new image file. When changes are made to this image, the File -> Save option will remain greyed out (disabled) because PixInsight does not recognise the image as a file that already exists on your computer. If we however use Open a Copy, PixInsight reads the image file itself but essentially creates an image within PixInsight that is identical. To avoid this, you would need to use File -> Save As and save it as a different image file with either a different filename, in a different folder, or both. If you then make changes to the image and go to File -> Save, this will quite literally overwrite the image you opened with the changed version. However, Open opens the actual image file you point to. It is noted at this point that while PixInsight supports a great deal of image file formats to open, it will only save in a number of formats.īoth achieve what they are supposed to - open an image in PixInsight. This means TIFF can be used where you wish to retain greater colour accuracy, even if most monitors cannot display above 8-bit (professional monitors usually go as far as 10-bit, at present). Keep in mind that unlike JPEG and PNG that are 8-bit formats, TIFF can be saved as 8-bit, 16-bit or even 32-bit format. The other file formats should only be used when the image post-processing is finished and you are publishing the image somewhere, like on the Internet. work on) images that are either DSLR RAW images or FITS images, depending on the capture camera used. It is strongly recommended that you pre- and post-process (i.e. Common digital image file formats such as JPEG, TIFF, PNG, etc are also naturally supported. That is one impressive list of image file formats supported - pretty much every DSLR RAW image file format in existence as well as the industry-standard FITS, used by CCD cameras. I consider this tutorial essential reading if you are new or relatively new to PixInsight, and in particular if you are to follow my other tutorials. It is down-to-the-point and may also offer some insights to some of the more experienced users. This tutorial serves to bridge the gap that naturally exists when you first encounter the PixInsight interface. PixInsight offers a 45-day trial for anyone who is interested. Others complain about its price, but it is a realistic assessment that PixInsight can replace all other pre- and post-processing software in one piece, costing less total than Adobe Photoshop alone and Adobe Photoshop strictly by itself cannot perform everything you may need to perform. There are various features of it that easily prove its exemplary performance, though some people appear to be easily put off from its interface (most probably through its different nature compared to more familiar software such as Adobe Photoshop). PixInsight is arguably the de facto standard in high-end astrophotography pre- and post-processing software (applicable to deep space).
